Are you sure all campus administrators fully understand the changes to Chapter 37? Are you sure they are coding Chapter 37 offenses according the the NEW, UPDATED definitions in the Texas Education, Health and Safety, and Penal Codes?

TxSP has just posted a NEW and UPDATED document that has three purposes:
- This chart may be used if districts wish to designate a recommended time frame (number of school days) for elementary, middle, and high school students when a Chapter 37 Offense has been committed.
- Each level should include a range from minimum to maximum.
- A committee of administrators from each level and a district representative should be formed to coordinate this task for agreement and consistency across the district.
- Notice the red bars in the sample above. Look to the far right of the red bar. You will see a column for ES (elementary), MS (middle), and HS (high school).
- This is the location on the chart where the district can type the school day ranges for each campus-level administrator to use as a guide in making decisions for each individual student based on mitigating circumstances.
- This document also provides everything a campus administrator needs in one place to help them determine the updated definitions of Chapter 37 offenses, locations, and actions.
- Links to necessary TxSP discipline resources and the codes used within the documents.
- Important reminders for all campus administrators when determining Chapter 37 Offenses.
- All required mitigating circumstances that must be considered before any disciplinary action is taken.
- The Key to the chart
- A definition of the new DAEP Capacity Rule.
- The document can be used as a training tool.

Texas School Procedures recommends that each district annually hold an onboarding session for all new employees and those who want a refresher. This provides a chance for district and school personnel to become familiar with new projects and legislative changes. The district immediately sees an uptick in usage and finds items to support their work that they didn’t know existed in the database.
Michelle Capener provides these sessions through Zoom meetings and they are free of charge. We also take special requests from subscribers to visit your district in person when we provide onboarding to multiple specialized groups.
To schedule your district’s onboarding session/s, complete this form. Sessions are filling up quickly.
